The 21-year-old victim had left his Airbnb to walk to a nearby grocery store on the night of the shooting, prosecutors said. When he crossed the street, he saw Waters exit a home and “quickly approach him while holding a black handgun,” the district attorney’s office said. Video footage of the shooting was also obtained from a nearby neighbor, prosecutors said. He was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Jail and will be arraigned Monday in San Jose. The lawsuit, filed Wednesday in the Superior Court of California in Santa Clara County, alleges Stanford administrators pursued unwarranted and “overly punitive” disciplinary action against Ms. Meyer for an incident that occurred months before her death. It also alleges they failed to respond appropriately to Ms. Meyer’s distressed response to the potential disciplinary action.

To afford a "fair market" one bedroom in NYC, minimum wage workers would need to put in 111 hours a week, a study found. They'd have to work even more to afford rent in Dallas, San Jose, or Chicago. When looking at affordability for minimum wage workers, the United Way researchers say that even a fair-market price is out of reach based on their current rate of pay. Instead of paying sky-high rent prices, minimum wage workers are cramming into tighter living arrangements, going homeless, or far exceeding the recommended portion of one's income they should spend on rent. Until this month, the minimum wage for New York home aides was $15 an hour, but got a bump to $17 an hour.

Stanford University officials must do more to prevent sexual violence, support victims and hold perpetrators accountable, sexual violence prevention advocates on campus said this week, in the wake of the second alleged rape reported in as many months at the school. Student activists have also planned a protest for Friday afternoon, sponsored by the group Sexual Violence Free Stanford. The group also sponsored the resolution passed Thursday, along with two executive members of the Associated Students of Stanford University, which represents the student body. "Sexual violence is a very challenging issue that we and all universities have been working aggressively to address," Mostofi said. Thirteen percent of all students experience sexual assault, according to RAINN, which characterizes sexual assault on campuses as "pervasive."
